Vintage beaded aprons, also known as a cache-sexe, were once used by the women of the Kirdi and Fulani Tribes of Cameroon, West Africa, as their only article of daily clothing. The name literally means “to hide the sex” or also referred to as “modesty aprons”.
Beautifully beaded aprons long ago replaced the original pieces of iron or other metals and are still worn today on important occasions.
