It is our pleasure and honor to bring amazing and treasured pieces home to share with you, our friends, and families in order to collectively celebrate and honor centuries old traditions, crafts, their creators and communities.
Every item sold at The Wanderlane will benefit the artisans and their communities and 5% of the net profits will go to a variety of artisan focused foundations in the region.
Below is a small sampling of the amazing artisans and collectives that we have been fortunate to work with for our Africa Drop. The Yoruba Beaders in Nigeria, where threaded beads represent unity, solidarity, and togetherness, made our spectacular beaded chairs among other things. A collective of HIV positive Women who craft hand rolled beads and chandeliers, and another collective of Women living in remote Swaziland who are able to sustain themselves and their families by weaving baskets from harvested grasses, along with another collective of Women in Zimbabwe wove and constructed many of our baskets. The Zulu potters from Kwazulu-Natal region near Bulawayo, have handed down the tradition and art form of pot making from Mother to Daughter, generation after generation and we can now share their artistry with you. A bounty of ingenuity, expertise, tradition, art, craft, tacit and communal knowledge is embodied in each and every offering.
We want to thank our partners and artisans for their craft and dedication. Images below feature the following collectives we support; Collaborative Craft Projects, Design Afrika, Gone Rural, and Hellooow Handmade among others.
